The best artificial Christmas tree should fit your room, complement your decorating style, and make seasonal setup easier. Start with the available space. Measure your ceiling height and leave enough room for your preferred tree topper and stand. Then compare the tree’s listed width with the area where it will be displayed. Next, consider the type of foliage, providing a familiar evergreen appearance and excellent fullness. Molded polyethylene branches are shaped from natural foliage for a more realistic needle profile. PVC foliage creates traditional fullness, while molded PE tips recreate the shape and texture of natural evergreen needles. Tree dimensions determine how naturally a design fits into the room. Pre-lit trees reduce decorating time and provide evenly distributed illumination. Treetime Christmas Creations specializes in premium artificial Christmas trees designed to deliver a more realistic appearance, dependable construction, and a better decorating experience. We focus on quality materials, carefully considered branch structures, realistic coloration, and reliable lighting technology. Begin with your ceiling height, available floor width, and desired topper clearance. Then compare the tree’s shape, foliage material, lighting system, branch construction, setup features, warranty, and storage requirements. Leave approximately 6 to 12 inches between the top of the finished tree and the ceiling, depending on the size of your topper. For an 8-foot ceiling, a 7- to 7.5-foot tree is usually appropriate.

Foliage and material details

PVC needles are made from flat strips of material and create the classic, full appearance associated with traditional artificial trees. PE tips are molded into three-dimensional shapes based on natural evergreen foliage, producing more realistic needles and branch details. Choose a pre-lit tree when convenient assembly and evenly distributed lighting are the priorities. Choose an unlit tree when you want full control over light color, bulb style, spacing, and future decorating changes. Quality artificial Christmas trees are generally made with flame-retardant materials, but no tree is fireproof. Keep the tree away from fireplaces, candles, heaters, damaged electrical cords, and other heat sources. Common options include traditional PVC trees, realistic PE trees, mixed-foliage trees, flocked trees, pre-lit trees, unlit trees, slim trees, full-profile trees, open or sparse trees, potted trees, tabletop trees, and commercial-height trees. Unplug the tree and remove all ornaments before cleaning. Use a soft microfiber cloth, feather duster, or soft-brush vacuum attachment to remove dust, working carefully from the top downward. Do not saturate the branches, wiring, or light sockets. Artificial trees can be reused for many seasons, require no watering, produce minimal needle cleanup, and are available in a broader range of heights, widths, foliage styles, and lighting configurations than live trees.

Remove decorations, disconnect the tree sections, and gently compress the branches according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Today’s artificial Christmas trees are designed to mimic the real thing. The King Fraser Fir is one of our most popular and realistic Christmas trees that closely resembles the gorgeous Fraser Fir. Designed with careful attention to detail, the King Fraser Fir captures the timeless beauty of a natural Fraser Fir. Its lush foliage and classic conical shape create a full, realistic silhouette that brings the look of a freshly cut tree into your home. Available in a variety of sizes, as well as full or slim, the King Fraser Fir makes it easy to find the perfect centerpiece for your holiday décor. Other evergreen options include the Aspen Fir and Cypress Spruce. Customers often note that these artificial Christmas trees are difficult to distinguish from their real counterparts, thanks to their carefully crafted branch structure, rich color, and lifelike fullness. Realistic vs. Classic artificial Christmas trees are a wonderful choice for those seeking a beautiful holiday centerpiece at a more accessible price point. With full, lush branch coverage and a timeless silhouette, classic trees are perfect for decorating with ornaments, ribbon, and garland. Made from 100% PVC, classic trees offer the nostalgic charm many families have known and loved for generations. Realistic artificial Christmas trees take things a step further, with advanced foliage engineered to closely mimic the look and texture of a natural evergreen, right down to the color variation, branch structure, and three-dimensional needle detail. Crafted using a blend of PE and PVC, these trees feature PE tips, a molded material that replicates the look and feel of real branches with exceptional accuracy. Both styles offer the same convenience, durability, and easy setup that make artificial trees a holiday favorite. Choosing the right artificial Christmas tree depends on several factors, including realism preference, lighting options, size, and price. Consider the height of your ceiling, the shape of the tree, and whether you prefer a pre-lit or unlit design. Whether you’re looking for a slim, space-saving tree or a bold, full silhouette, King of Christmas offers a variety of artificial Christmas tree styles to fit any home. Our collection includes different shapes, sizes, and lighting options, including pre-lit trees with multi-color or twinkling light functions, as well as top-rated flocked Christmas trees that offer the look of freshly fallen snow. We recommend leaving at least 6 inches to a foot of space from the top tip of the tree to the ceiling. This allows you to leave room for a tree topper, and overall offers a better presence in your space.

Shaping, lighting, and setup tips

Dual Color LED lights are controlled via foot pedal and provide 10 brilliant, energy-efficient light settings. All lights are designed to stay lit even if a bulb goes out. Most trees have 3 sections (can range from 2-5). Plug in the light cords between each section for pre-lit trees. Spend 20 to 30 minutes on shaping and fluffing the Christmas tree for best results. Work section by section and branch by branch, gently spreading each and every individual branch tip to fill any visible gaps. Continue shaping as you attach each section, making sure the branches are evenly fluffed throughout. Once the tree is completely assembled, step back and give it a final once-over, adjusting any areas that appear sparse.

Consider this the nerd lab of finding the most realistic Christmas trees. I’ve admitted this before and I’ll say it again… I’m a research nerd. It is physically impossible for me to buy anything online without reading reviews and comparing a bajillion different similar items. Over the past several years, we have bought many artificial trees (and we returned the ones that didn’t look realistic enough to make the cut).

We’ve had our fair share of the good, the bad, and the ugly with Christmas trees over the years. We bought this artificial sparse Christmas tree for our living room four years ago, and we’re still completely happy. It’s a beaut without costing a lotta moolah. If you love the look of a charmingly sparse Christmas tree, this one is the perfect budget-friendly pre-lit option under $300. We have 8 foot ceilings, and the 7.5 feet tall option fit with just enough room to spare for a star tree topper. The scrawny Alpine tree look is best suited for rustic, cottage, Scandinavian styles. They’re so easy to decorate because they’re so beautiful in their perfect imperfection without any ornaments at all, if you prefer the minimal look. The high quality “pine needles” on its branches are rigid, yet slim making them appear lifelike even up close.

We bought this very full, fluffy “Feel Real” Frasier Grande Christmas tree in 2022 and were really happy. Overall, it felt like it took up too much room in the small corner of our living room, which is why we didn’t keep it. But that was just our personal preference. It turned out to be way more “grande” than we anticipated. For a dose of nostalgia, we covered it with tinsel. You can see how realistic the needles look up close in the photo below. But if you prefer a neutral look, the fluffy white branches create a glamorous almost metallic look against twinkle lights. The white flocking helps those hodgepodge ornaments actually look cohesive with a little ribbon thrown in. The flocking on this tree is very thick and fluffy. Despite being in and out of the attic over four years, it really held up!

If your family has mixed preferences between white, colored, or twinkling LED lights, this tree has different settings for all of them so you can change the look or effect at the click of a button. We bought this Faux Twinkling Pre-Lit Norway Spruce this year on sale, and it is by far the most gorgeous tree we have ever owned! Granted, it’s a pricey one. It might require an extra few minutes in the decorating process, but it can sometimes save a couple hundred bucks this way. We totally went overboard with the lights by adding the strands ourselves. That made it extra glowy at night.

Shaping/Fluffing a National Tree

We’ve set up enough artificial Christmas trees to know that there’s no single best one. They come in dozens of species, shapes, sizes, prices, lighting options, and levels of realism. Some are exuberant in their artificiality - who but a Grinch wouldn’t smile at a flamingo-pink tinsel tree? (Grinches, you can get trees in coal-black, too.) With care, decoration, and attention to detail, many of them can look beautiful. But we have to start somewhere, and among the 30-plus trees we’ve tried since 2016, the Balsam Hill 7.5-foot Unlit Classic Blue Spruce is the attractive, realistic, versatile, and competitively priced option we recommend first.
